The last 3 days, I’ve been rockin’ and shakin’ at Pukkelpop. And it has been a great edition! What follows is a relatively short overview of what I’ve seen there.
The weekend started off with Amy Macdonald. The reviews might not have been that positive, but I don’t care, she a great artist, I like her music very much, and she performs very well live too.
Soko‘s show turned out to be a total disaster in my opinion. The sound was really, really bad. You couldn’t hear anything, so I left after a few songs. Too bad.
MaxNormal.tv was absolute fantastic! I didn’t know them, but that is what Pukkelpop is all about. Discovering new, great things! You should check out their website. If I only knew where I could find their album, I would buy it right now.
I don’t really know that much of Tricky, but I used to listen a lot to his music. So I gave it a try again. It was a bit different, but I liked it.
Last year I already saw Henry Rollins perform his one man show. So I knew I couldn’t miss it again this year. He is a total freak, but he has so much energy, you have got to like him!
Rosin Murphy totally blew me away with her show. I don’t know how many times she changed her outfit, but it was a lot. :)
Last thing I saw on Thursday were The Killers. I must say they perform very well, but it isn’t really my thing I guess…
Friday started with a big laugh. MC Thomas Smith, Jim Speelmans and Javier Guzman totally rock! It’s cool Pukkelpop has room for stand-up comedians. And I can only encourage that.
Then, I’m not sure what I saw, but I believe it was The Count & Sinden. A DJ, a MC, and two hot chicks. What do you need more?
I didn’t stay long with Michael Franti and Spearhead. But it was okay.
The belgian band Arsenal is great at performing live on stage. But their last album isn’t so great actually.
Another fantastic discovery for me was Tunng. Dreamy and beautiful music!
The only time at the Shelter was because a friend wanted to see MxPx. It’s like going in to the dark side of Pukkelpop. Yeah, that is bit exaggerated. :)
The tent where Alphabeat was performing was overloaded with people. And I wish I got inside. It sounded really good. :(
Boys Noize sucked. It was boring. And apparently I seemed to be the only one who felt that way.
Radio Modern succeeded to keep me awake a little bit longer. Ray Collins’ Hot Club, Spank The Baby and The Boppin Benvis Brothers took me back to the sixties (even though I’ve never really been there of course)!
The last day, Saturday, turned out to be the best day of all! I wish I’ve been awake early too see Lykke Li, but I needed my sleep. So I started off in the afternoon with Yelle. A little bit loud. Funny though, a little guy next to me (I think he was around 15 years old) started to dance like a real Tecktonic-master. That dude sure could dance.
My new hero is Girl Talk. He is absolutely insane, but a real genius! I heard a lot about him, so I wanted check him out. He is mashup-mix-master jumping around on stage and dancing in the crowd. He truly is brilliant!
After that it was Brazilian shaking time with Moveis Colonais de Acaju! The real party started here! If you want, you can download their music on their website for free!
Next on my list was Shakleton. Not bad. But he didn’t really convince me.
Simian Mobile Disco was even louder than Yelle. So loud, that some people were standing with their fingers in their ears. But it still was a great performance!
Last, but absolutely not least, I went to see Etienne de Crécy. If you thought Daft Punk was good (I saw them 2 years ago at Pukkelpop), well, think again. It was the last show I saw, and the best thing I’ve seen during the whole 3 days!
