I just launched a new website for GizMag. The main goal was to focus more on the content, and remove all the clutter. So I kept it as simple as possible. I renamed the main sections on the site, so it would be clear what they stand for. Daily will be a blog, weekly will be the web magazine and monthly will be the PDF magazine. Of course, you shouldn’t take this too literally…

So take a look and tell me what you think: http://gizmag.eu

It has been a while since I updated my blog. So here you go. A post about everything and nothing.

It’s probably to early to review this past year, it’s still 20 days to go. A lot can happen in that time. But I wanted to say that even though for quite a few people around me this has been a terrible year, for me it couldn’t have been better. And that might sound selfish to say, but I’m very grateful for it.

At the moment I’m moving to a new home. So I’m playing the time card for the lack of updates on this blog and GizMag. But I promise 2011 will bring some new awesomeness! I have some ideas to rebrand the GizMag website, and expand it with something new. It’s all very early, it only exists as a concept in my mind for now. But it is time for some changes.

At the moment I’m spending my last days at Alley, which is a bit sad, but it will also give me the opportunity to spend my time on new ideas. It was a fun ride, and I’m happy to have done it. And that’s the only advise I can give anyone. If you have an idea, dream or chance to do something you really like. Just go for it. It’s totally worth it!

I’ll leave you with some awesome music albums I’m listening to at the moment. Check them out.

Sally Thompson knows what I like. :{) She sent me this little post package in the mail. It’s a mini moustache-themed artbook, to show her support for Movember (guys growing moustaches to raise money and awareness for men’s health charities).

I do love getting real mail, and does make me smile! Thanks a lot Sally!

It has been a busy week. But between all the work and being sick, I luckily found the time to finish up the new GizMag PDF (with one mistake though :) but I managed to correct it). It’s another issue I’m very proud of. It has some great artwork in it, and I’m very happy with all the work the artists put in the interviews again. It’s amazing I’m still having so much fun with it after 2 years. And there are some awesome things coming, just wait and see…

Check out the new issue, download it from GizMag.eu. Or check out the Issuu version.

50/365 Sneak peak

This is a rather bad, blurred, unfocused snapshot of the upcoming GizMag PDF. I know. But I’m very thrilled about it, it’s going to be super sweet! This picture is part of a work from Simon Kim, he was selected from the Society6 Grant I organized a few months ago. He’s very talented, and I’m very excited to show you his interview. I’m not going to spoil anything, so I’m not revealing any of the other artists. You’ll just have to wait and see.

39/365 2 years

I knew this was coming, but I still forgot about it yesterday… Exactly 2 years ago (yesterday), GizMag went live with its first web issue! In the past 2 years, the magazine gained more visitors than I could ever imagine, which is awesome! So thanks a lot everyone! I won’t bore you with the technical details, but I am going to brag a bout it. :P The last few months the amount of visitors is slowing growing again, and so are the downloads of the PDF issues. When I first started, I told myself I wouldn’t continue if I didn’t get to 100 visitors a week. And I can assure you that we left this number behind us, even on a daily basis, a long time ago.

I’ve been thinking about trying to do some new things with the magazine. Actually a lot of people asked me for a print version, so who knows, if enough people are interested in it… But I’m not promising anything… I think the hand-written interviews are a big success, I get a lot of positive feedback on it from readers and participating artists, and I’m always amazed with the result. So we’ll keep doing that for sure!

For now, keep a look out for the next PDF issue. Which is going to be super awesome!

Update: I did some more digging in the archives, the website was launched on 08/02/2008! :)

Wow. It seems that I haven’t updated my blog for more than a month. I’ll never become rich and famous that way. :(
Anyway… What happened in the meantime?

At Alley we started our second expo with El Neoray, Vagabundos, Daspasfunky and Botlek. Definitely something you need to come and check out! I really enjoy this new expo, and I hope you will too. We expanded our shop with some new items (and new stuff is still coming in). And we even launched a new website! So you see, we’ve been very busy!

GizMag is still going strong with an average of more than 6000 downloads per PDF issue now. Even though the time I could spend on it was limited, I managed to keep updating the website with fresh links during the past 2 months. At the moment I am working on a new PDF issue. And I have some plans for something totally new, but I’m not sure about the details yet. So more on that later. From now on, I think I won’t be updating this blog with much GizMag news. So you’ll need to visit the website and my Tumblr for updates.

For all the cool stuff I’ve been doing at Nascom, I forward you to the company blog. Most of the awesome stuff ends up there anyway! :)

I promise I won’t wait too long for the next blog entry this time…
